Recent updates, May 2011
Not as much to post this time. There have been some improvements going on under the hood, but the changes won't be apparent to users. There are just a couple of visible feature additions.
Email to a friend
An 'email to a friend' link has been added to stories and image galleries. This can be used by visitors to email and tell their friends about your site. Look for the envelope icon next to the printer icon when viewing a story.
This feature is automatically enabled for all sites. There is no need to configure anything. (As usual with ProsePoint Express, we try to keep things simple and have them 'just work'.)
Promote this post
A new property called Promote this post (or 'promote' for short) has been added to stories and image galleries. When editing or posting a new story, a new checkbox now appears. The Promote this post property was added for flexibility in the selection of stories to be shown by channel widgets.
Channel widgets now also have an additional configuration option called Only show promoted posts. If ticked, a channel widget will only show stories which have their Promote this post property also ticked.
This allows channel widgets to display a subset of stories — as decided by the site user by marking relevant stories with Promote this post.
Replaces Lead Stories channel
Some older sites may have a channel called Lead Stories, which was used to define a set of stories to be shown in a prominent place on the front page.
Newer sites no longer have this channel automatically created. The Promote this post property is now used to define a set of stories to be shown in a prominent place on the front page, thus replacing the need for a separate Lead Stories channel.
If you have a site with a Lead Stories channel and you'd like to switch to using Promote this post (and remove the Lead Stories channel), please contact us.
(This is purely optional. Sites with a Lead Stories channel can still operate in the same way as previously.)
We have configured SSL encryption for ProsePoint Express for those users who want to use the service securely. Please see http://www.prosepoint.net/documentation/using-prosepoint-express-securel... for more information.
We have added some sample css snippets for users who would like try out some visual modifications for their site. Please see http://www.prosepoint.net/documentation/custom-css for more information.
More to come ...
As before (and probably for a long time to come), we are continually adding new features and improving upon ProsePoint Express. If there is a new feature you need, or you can't think of how to achieve something with your site, please drop us a line and see if we have any ideas.
Thanks for reading and have a good day.
